At the annual conference of Canadian Society for Studies in Education, Kael will present a paper titled, "Re-imagining and Re-encountering the Stories of Our Past: Singing Queer and Trans Activism into the Present Through the Pedagogy of Song." This paper focuses on Kael's collaborative ethnographic songwriting method and their recent collaboration with Tara Goldstein on her archival research-informed theatre project, "The Love Booth and Other Plays." For Pride month, and to mark the 50th anniversary of the year that homosexuality was declassified and removed from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health Disorders (DSM, American Psychiatric Association), along with Tara Goldstein and her team, Kael will be part of two performances of "The Love Booth and Other Plays." This set of plays is an archival research-informed theatre project that Tara wrote about queer and trans activism in the USA in the 1970's and 80's. Kael will be performing two songs they composed for the play. Ticket information, location, and exact time TBA.
